New Delhi, 01 August (H.S.): Union ministers and the Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday paid tributes to great freedom fighter, prominent nationalist thinker, and the legendary leader Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary, recalling his immense contribution to the nation and his historic slogan, “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it.”

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Lokmanya Tilak awakened the spirit of “Purna Swaraj” (complete self-rule) among the masses and ignited the flame of revolution against British rule. He said Tilak’s unparalleled efforts for India’s independence would continue to inspire future generations to work with full dedication for the nation’s progress and development.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda paid homage to Lokmanya Tilak, describing him as one of the key pillars of India’s freedom movement. He said Tilak’s fearless personality, nationalist journalism, and efforts towards public awakening connected millions of Indians with the freedom struggle. His contribution to the Swadeshi movement, promotion of education, and strengthening of national consciousness would always be remembered, he added.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recalled Tilak’s famous declaration, “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it,” saying that he dedicated his entire life to upholding the dignity of self-rule, indigenous language, and Indian culture. He said Tilak’s life and ideals continue to serve as a source of inspiration for citizens even today.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal paid tribute to Lokmanya Tilak, stating that he awakened the desire for complete independence among Indians and provided new momentum to the freedom movement. He said Tilak’s struggle and patriotic spirit would continue to inspire generations to come.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid homage to Lokmanya Tilak on his death anniversary, saying that he spread the ideals of Swadeshi, Swaraj, and national renaissance among the people. She highlighted that Tilak transformed Ganesh Utsav and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebrations into platforms for national consciousness, social harmony, and public awakening. She said his dedication towards patriotism, self-respect, and cultural identity would continue to guide the people of the country.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid his respects to Lokmanya Tilak, describing him as a great hero of the freedom movement. He said that by giving the call of “Swaraj is my birthright,” Tilak provided a new direction to India’s struggle for independence and remains a source of inspiration for every citizen.
