New Delhi, 01 August (H.S.): The Indian Railways has approved a Rs.976 crore multitracking project on the 29-kilometre-long Danapur-Fatuha rail section of East Central Railway in Bihar. The project is expected to reduce congestion on the Patna railway corridor and facilitate smoother movement of both passenger and freight trains.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the project includes the construction of the third and fourth railway lines between Danapur and Patna, the third railway line between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Sahib, and the third and fourth railway lines between Patna Sahib and Fatuha.

The additional tracks will improve train movement, reduce delays and enhance punctuality in railway operations.

In the very first year after the project becomes operational, the rail section will be able to handle 22 additional passenger trains and 18 additional freight trains every day. The project will also increase freight transportation capacity by 5.2 million tonnes annually.

The project is part of the ongoing capacity augmentation programme on the Delhi–Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–Patna–Kiul–Bhagalpur–Khanna–Howrah railway route. The corridor is considered crucial for the transportation of energy resources, minerals and cement.

The railway section will also play an important role in supporting the upcoming 2,120 MW thermal power plant being developed at Chausa in Buxar district of Bihar.

The Ministry of Railways said the project will strengthen railway infrastructure in Bihar, accelerate freight transportation and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
