Guwahati, 01 August (HS): In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police, along with Kamrup district police, arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized a large quantity of narcotic substances from a vehicle at Amingaon on Saturday.

According to Assam Police CPRO, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence that a consignment of drugs was being transported from Kakching in Manipur to a lower Assam district in a vehicle bearing registration number AS-11AA-6800.

The joint team intercepted the vehicle at Amingaon and apprehended three occupants, identified as Tabish (24), the driver, Thekcham Avinash Singh (41), the co-driver, and Nongmaithem Biswajit (38), all residents of Manipur.

During the search, police recovered 50,000 Yaba tablets containing methamphetamine, weighing approximately 5 kg, concealed in specially built cavities inside the vehicle. Additionally, 67.5 grams of heroin hidden inside five soap cases were also seized.

Police stated that the estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around ₹12.5 crore, while the CID has assessed their value at approximately ₹7.5 crore. A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway.---------
