Global markets presented mixed cues on Thursday, with U.S. equities ending the previous session on a mixed note, European markets witnessing broad-based selling, and Asian markets trading with mixed momentum. Meanwhile, Dow Jones Futures was trading in positive territory during early trade, indicating cautious optimism among investors.
Wall Street closed with mixed results in the previous session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.09 per cent to settle at 52,348.39, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.28 per cent to close at 7,482.71. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite outperformed, advancing 0.20 per cent to finish at 25,870.65. Meanwhile, Dow Jones Futures was trading 0.10 per cent higher at 52,402.31 during early hours on Thursday.
European markets remained under significant selling pressure throughout the previous trading session. The FTSE Index fell 176.84 points, or 1.69 per cent, to close at 10,489.04. France's CAC Index declined 183.58 points, or 2.22 per cent, to end the session at 8,252.66. Germany's DAX Index also witnessed sharp losses, dropping 567.80 points, or 2.28 per cent, to settle at 24,897.45.
Asian markets traded on a mixed note on Thursday. Of the nine major regional markets, six were trading in positive territory while three remained in the red.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index declined 220.46 points, or 0.92 per cent, to 23,979. China's Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.46 per cent to 3,952.49, while South Korea's Kospi Index edged down 0.11 per cent to 7,238.57.
On the positive side, GIFT Nifty advanced 170 points, or 0.71 per cent, to trade at 24,048, indicating a firm opening for Indian equities. Singapore's Straits Times Index gained 0.74 per cent to reach 5,409.47.
Japan's Nikkei Index emerged as the strongest performer in the region, surging 1,232.95 points, or 1.85 per cent, to 68,052. Thailand's SET Composite Index also posted robust gains, rising 1.19 per cent to 1,594.94.
Elsewhere, Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index was trading 0.21 per cent higher at 5,885.90, while Taiwan's Weighted Index registered a marginal gain of 0.02 per cent to trade at 45,745.38.
