
Barpeta (Assam), 08 July (HS): Five alleged drug peddlers were arrested during a series of anti-narcotics operations conducted by Barpeta Police across Barpeta, Howly, Sarthebari and Barpeta Road areas of Assam, police said on Wednesday.
The coordinated raids, carried out as part of the district's ongoing crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, led to the seizure of suspected heroin, Yaba tablets, cough syrup, cash and other incriminating materials.
In Sarthebari, police seized 172 bottles of cough syrup suspected to have been brought for illegal sale. During a raid in the Barpeta Road area, officers recovered 0.76 grams of suspected heroin packed in eight vials, 240 Yaba tablets weighing 23.280 grams, ₹42,940 in cash and two mobile phones believed to have been used in the alleged drug trafficking network.
In Howly, police recovered a mobile handset, a box containing 11.84 grams of suspected heroin (including packaging) and another plastic vial containing suspected narcotic substance.
In Barpeta town, police seized suspected heroin, Yaba tablets, 63 empty containers and two syringes.
All five accused have been arrested and legal action has been initiated against them under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Police said further investigation is underway.----------
