Guwahati, 08 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday appealed to children to make the most of their summer vacation by spending quality time with family, exploring new places and engaging in meaningful activities beyond mobile phones and the internet.

In a social media post on Wednesday, the Chief Minister fondly recalled his own childhood memories of summer holidays, describing them as a time to visit relatives, enjoy village life, play outdoor games, catch fish in ponds and create lasting memories with grandparents, cousins and friends.

While acknowledging that technology has made life easier, Sarma said that no digital screen can replace real-life experiences. He encouraged children to visit their maternal grandparents' homes, listen to stories from elders, play with friends, read good books and learn new skills during the vacation.

The Chief Minister also urged parents to take their children to Assam's heritage sites and places of educational importance, including Science City, Shaheed Smarak and the Maidam of Lachit Borphukan, to help them gain knowledge through travel.

Sarma further appealed to students to revive the habit of letter writing by writing a letter to a friend, teacher, relative or someone they admire, saying that letters help express emotions more deeply and nurture creativity.

Expressing hope that children would return from the vacation with new experiences, fresh ideas and cherished memories, the Chief Minister wished them a happy and enriching summer break.----------
