
Kolkata, 06 July (H.S.): West Bengal observed the 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Kesari Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on Monday with tribute programmes held across the state. The main ceremony took place at Red Road in Kolkata, where Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari paid floral tributes to the nationalist leader and recalled his contribution to nation-building.
Several senior members of the state government attended the programme, including Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, Industry Minister Tapas Roy, Sports Minister Indranil Khan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Purnima Chakraborty, and former BJP West Bengal president Tathagata Roy, who also offered floral tributes.
A separate commemorative programme was organised at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state headquarters on Muralidhar Sen Lane in Kolkata. The event was attended by BJP West Bengal president and Member of Parliament Samik Bhattacharya, along with senior party leaders and workers.
Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharya said Dr. Mookerjee never believed in the politics of revenge. He added that West Bengal was now being governed by an administration inspired by Dr. Mookerjee's ideals.
Earlier in the day, Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh paid floral tributes to Dr. Mookerjee's portrait at Eco Park.
The birth anniversary was also observed in several districts across the state. In Medinipur, BJP leaders and workers organised a tribute programme at the party office in Ward No. 9, where floral tributes were offered to Dr. Mookerjee's portrait. MLA Shankar Guchhait and several party functionaries participated in the event, during which speakers highlighted Dr. Mookerjee's nationalist vision, political legacy and contributions to the nation.
