New Delhi, 29 July (H.S.): The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea filed by former Andhra Pradesh minister Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao in connection with the Andhra Pradesh liquor transport scam case. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant upheld the order of the Telangana High Court and rejected the bail petition.

The Telangana High Court had dismissed Rao’s anticipatory bail plea on July 3. During the hearing, the counsel appearing for Rao argued that the petitioner had no connection with the alleged scam. The lawyer also cited Rao’s poor health condition and sought anticipatory bail on medical grounds.

The liquor transport scam is separate from the main liquor scam case in Andhra Pradesh. The investigation into the transport-related irregularities is being conducted independently on the basis of an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR). The alleged scam relates to the period between 2020 and 2024.
