New Delhi, 29 July (H.S.): A Delhi court has granted bail to two law students accused of using abusive language against the Chief Justice of India during proceedings at the Supreme Court recently. Judicial Magistrate First Class Ravi ordered the release of both accused on bail.

The Patiala House Court directed the two accused to furnish personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each for their release. The court instructed them to cooperate with the investigation and remain present on every date of hearing during the trial.

The court further directed the accused not to tamper with evidence or attempt to influence witnesses. The two students granted bail have been identified as Prabal Pratap Singh and Chandrabhan. Prabal Pratap Singh is a third-year law student at Lucknow University, while Chandrabhan is pursuing his second year of law studies.

According to Delhi Police, the security staff of the Supreme Court had lodged a complaint against both students at the Tilak Marg Police Station. The complaint referred to an incident that took place on July 10 before a bench comprising Justice K. V. Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe.

During the hearing of the matter on July 10, the Supreme Court asked the petitioner whether he would argue the case himself. In response, Prabal allegedly said in English, My Lord, I direct you to order the registration of an FIR against the ACP of Lucknow.

Justice K. V. Viswanathan expressed surprise and asked whether the petitioner was issuing directions to the court. In response, Prabal Pratap Singh allegedly said, That is all from my side. Everything is on record.

Following this, he allegedly used abusive language against Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and threw the case file towards the judges. The Supreme Court security personnel subsequently detained Prabal Pratap Singh and escorted him out of the courtroom.
