Washington/Tehran, 28 July (H.S.): The Middle East may soon receive a much-needed respite from the escalating tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most critical maritime trade corridor, as diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran gather momentum. US President Donald Trump said Washington is holding very friendly talks with Tehran but indicated that he is unwilling to prolong the negotiations, stressing that he wants a resolution to be reached quickly. Iran, however, responded by saying that the United States is desperate to find a way out of the conflict.

According to an Al Jazeera report, Iran is proceeding cautiously with a measured and pragmatic approach. Tehran has made it clear that it seeks the restoration of peace, but not on terms dictated unilaterally by Washington. This was one of the key messages conveyed during the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson's weekly press briefing. Iran also attempted to send a balanced signal, emphasizing that while it prefers diplomacy, it remains fully prepared to confront any future escalation if necessary.

Iran's military chief echoed the same position, stating that the country remains ready for any eventuality. Tehran further maintained that the doors to diplomacy are neither fully open nor completely closed, but remain partially open for negotiations.

Meanwhile, the United States is focused on ensuring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. President Trump warned that if Iran continues to remain uncompromising, Washington retains the option of taking strong military action.

Amid the ongoing diplomatic efforts, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in Washington and is expected to meet President Trump. The conflict with Iran is likely to be the central issue on the agenda during their discussions.

Separately, Saudi Arabia has condemned a drone attack carried out by Iran-backed groups in Iraq, alleging that the attacks targeted oil facilities in Riyadh and the Kingdom's Eastern Province.
