Prayagraj, 27 July (HS): Under the guidance of the General
Manager, North Central Railway Naresh Pal Singh, a comprehensive 'Mega Special
Plantation Drive' was organized on July 26, 2026, across the zone's three
divisions—Agra, Jhansi, and Prayagraj—centered on the theme He who plants
trees, plants hope. During this special drive, a significant step towards
environmental conservation and sustainable development was taken by planting
saplings on a large scale across railway premises, stations, and yards in all
three divisions.
In the Agra Division, approximately 100,000 saplings were
planted across nearly 100 different locations. These included shade-bearing
trees, fruit-bearing trees, and various species of attractive flowering plants.
Region-wise distribution saw the planting of approximately 33,000 saplings in
the Mathura–Alwar–Palwal area, 21,000 in the Dholpur area, 16,000 in the Agra
line area, 15,000 in the Agra area, and 15,000 in the Idgah area. The campaign
was successfully concluded across various railway premises, including Agra
Cantt, Mathura Junction, Idgah, Kuberpur, Dholpur, Mania, Bhandai, Udi Mor, and
Chiksana.
Displaying unprecedented enthusiasm during the drive, the
Jhansi Division planted approximately 200,000 saplings. This included 57,735
saplings in Jhansi, 55,100 in Gwalior, and 34,970 in the Mahoba and Banda
areas. Additionally, the planting of 27,592 saplings in the Kanpur area and
26,965 in the Lalitpur area was recorded within the Jhansi Division. Meanwhile,
the Prayagraj Division surpassed the headquarters-set target of 1.50 lakh by
planting 1.62 lakh saplings in a single day, bringing the division's total
plantation count to 6.56 lakh.
Railway officials, staff, representatives from various
departments, and Scouts and Guides volunteers participated enthusiastically in
this mega drive. Officials stated that the primary objective of the campaign is
to promote biodiversity and mitigate the impacts of climate change. All
participants also pledged to ensure the regular protection and care of the
planted saplings, aiming to create a clean, green, and healthy environment for
the future.
