
Misleading
posts against Ethanol, Gadkari

27 July (HS): Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has moved the Mumbai High Court
against deep fake contents relating to E-20 Ethanol petrol and defamatory
content posed on social media. The content alleges Gadkari and his family
members are earning huge profits by promoting E-20 petrol.
In his petition
Gadkari has appealed for action against Meta and other social media and
individuals and companies helping to spread the misleading messages. He had
sought permission from the court to initiate a civil case against them, which
the court granted. Gadkari had filed application under Letters Patent Clause
XII, under which permission to entertain the case even if it is outside the the
court’s geographical jurisdiction.
According
to Gadkari’s petition, the deep fake video shows Gadkari and his family is
earing profits through E-20 Ethanol policy, which he is promoting. Ethanol
blending policy is implemented through Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry. The
petition was placed before Justice Abhay Ahuja.
Gadkari’s
counsel Sandip S Laddha argued that the content is available through internet
in Mumbai also. Justice Ahula allowed the petition, following which FIR against
four social media influencers for spreading misleading information against
Gadkari.
