
New Delhi, 27 July (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a nationwide Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan (Social Harmony Pledge Campaign) to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary year of Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas. The campaign will be conducted across the country from July 29, 2026 (Guru Purnima) to February 20, 2027 (Magh Purnima).
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters on Monday, BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh said the campaign aims to spread the message of equality, social justice, service, harmony and social cohesion preached by Sant Guru Ravidas, while ensuring the participation of every section of society in the vision of a developed India.
He said the campaign will commence on July 29 with the Samrasta Deep Mahotsav, during which lamp-lighting ceremonies will be organised at temples across the country. Under the Kalash Vandan Abhiyan, urns containing sacred soil from Shri Guru Ravidas' birthplace at Seer Govardhanpur in Varanasi will be carried to states, districts and villages nationwide.
Chugh further announced that the Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Samrasta Yatra will be organised from October 5 to November 5, 2026, travelling from Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Jalandhar to Seer Govardhanpur in Varanasi. The yatra will feature saints' conferences, social harmony seminars, devotional singing, cultural programmes and public outreach activities.
In addition, Samrasta Samvad programmes will be organised in hostels across the country from November 26, 2026, to January 15, 2027, to familiarise young people with the life, teachings and message of social harmony propagated by Sant Guru Ravidas.
Chugh said Sant Guru Ravidas' life and philosophy continue to inspire ideals of social equality, self-respect and humanity. He added that the campaign would not merely be a series of events but a broad-based public movement aimed at strengthening social harmony, promoting national unity and advancing the vision of a developed India.
