New Delhi, 25 July (H.S.): The Central government on Saturday accepted all the demands raised by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), which had been protesting at Jantar Mantar and across the country for education reforms. Following the government’s assurance, the CJP announced the withdrawal of its movement. The government also said that it would work together with the CJP team in the coming weeks on education reforms.

CJP spokespersons Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka held discussions with Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on Saturday. After the meeting, all four jointly addressed a press conference.

During the press conference, Union Minister Nadda said that the government had considered and accepted the demands of the students with sensitivity. On the issue of compensation, he said that the government was sensitive to the situation of the affected families and that compensation would be provided to the maximum possible extent as per the applicable rules.

CJP spokespersons Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka said that the organisation’s first demand was the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, which has now been fulfilled. Their second demand was the withdrawal of all FIRs registered after July 20 in connection with the protests in Delhi and BJP-ruled states. They said the government has given an assurance in this regard and it has also been agreed that all registered FIRs will be shared with them within three to four days.

They further said that the government has assured them that no action will be taken against the CJP team in the future in connection with the movement. The CJP will share a draft of its demands with the government, and a written assurance will be provided by the government on Tuesday.

The two CJP spokespersons also said that the government has accepted their demand for providing compensation to the families of students who died by suicide allegedly due to issues related to the NEET examination. They added that discussions with the government on education sector reforms would resume within four weeks.

They said that following the assurances received from the government on Saturday, the CJP has decided to withdraw its protest.
