Bongaigaon (Assam), 23 July (HS): A police operation in Assam's Bongaigaon district led to the arrest of two men accused of impersonating government officials to cheat members of the public.

The arrested individuals, Balram Choudhary and Baldev Singh, allegedly claimed to be the Assistant Manager and State Director of a so-called Crime Investigation Department operating under the Government of India. Using forged identities, they reportedly targeted milk distributors in the Kokila area and attempted to extort money by intimidating them with false legal threats.

During the operation, police recovered fake identity cards, mobile phones, ATM cards and two luxury vehicles from the accused. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and whether the duo has links to similar cases in other parts of the country.----------
