New Delhi, 22 July (H.S.):
More than three crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed so far for Assessment Year 2026-27, with over 15 lakh returns submitted on July 21 alone.
The Income Tax Department said on Wednesday that taxpayers have already filed more than three crore ITRs for the assessment year 2026-27. It added that more than 15 lakh returns were filed on Tuesday, July 21.
The department advised taxpayers not to wait until the last-minute rush and encouraged them to file their ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms before the July 31, 2026 deadline through the official income tax portal.
The July 31 deadline applies to individuals who are required to file ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms. Generally, taxpayers whose annual income exceeds the applicable income tax exemption limit are required to submit their income tax returns.
