
Nagpur, 22 July
(HS): Congress workers staged agitation on Wednesday in Nagpur protesting detention
of the party leader Rahul Gandhi by Delhi Police.
Their attempt to
march towards Raj Bhavan was aborted by the police.
Police detained
Congress leaders including Ex-MLA Sunil kedar and others. Nagpur City and Rural
unit workers participated in the agitation. They raised slogans and alleged
Rahul Gandhi’s arrest was an attack on democracy.
City Unit President
Prafulla Gudadhe Patil, Rural Unit President Ashvin Bais, Avantika Lekurwale,
Kunda Raut, Vaishnavi Bharadwaj and others participated in large numbers.
Similar
agitation were staged in Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai and other
regions of Maharashtra.
Prominent party leaders
including State Unit President Harshavardhan Sapkal, MLA Vijay Wadettiwar,
Nasim Khan participated.
Sapkal staged
sit-in agitation on road with the Constitution in one hand and a Rose flower in
the other.
Police detained the
leaders after they did not budge to the request by the police authorities.
They raised
slogans against BJP-led government and announced to continue with the protest
until the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
