
Imphal, 11 July (HS): Manipur Police intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking and law-and-order violations, arresting three persons in separate operations while recovering around 5 kg of brown sugar, suspected drug proceeds worth ₹29.42 lakh and cash over the last 24 hours.
According to the official information provided on Sunday, in Bishnupur district, police intercepted a grey Tata Punch (MN-04P-4706) at Kwakta on Saturday and arrested Md. Amzad Khan (47), a resident of Lilong Chingjao. During the operation, police seized approximately 5 kg of brown sugar along with ₹83,770 in cash.
In another operation linked to an NDPS case registered in Haryana, police arrested Dipu Gupta from Churachandpur on July 10. A cash amount of ₹29.42 lakh, suspected to be proceeds of drug-related crimes, was recovered from his possession. Police said the accused was allegedly involved in hawala transactions for drug syndicates operating in Churachandpur. He has been handed over to Haryana Police along with the seized cash.
Meanwhile, in connection with a case involving mob violence and an attempt to set abandoned houses on fire at Kanto Sabal in the Leimakhong area, joint teams of Manipur Police, CRPF, RAF and the Army arrested Kammang Lhouvum (65), Chief of Hengjang Village and Chairman of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee (LAPC) and Pagin Hangshing (30) of Khunkho Kuki Village. Police said efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals involved in the incident.----------
