
Chandigarh, 11 July (H.S.): Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, has received approval from the National Medical Commission to increase its annual MBBS intake from 150 to 200 seats from the academic session 2026-27.The approval is being seen as a major boost to medical education in the region. With the addition of 50 MBBS seats, more aspiring medical students will now get an opportunity to pursue undergraduate medical education at one of North India’s leading government medical institutions.According to the GMCH administration, the approval marks an important milestone in the institution’s efforts to strengthen medical education, expand training opportunities and improve access to quality healthcare education.The increase in seats also reflects the institution’s focus on maintaining high academic standards, upgrading infrastructure and meeting the quality benchmarks set by the National Medical Commission.Welcoming the decision, the GMCH administration described it as a landmark achievement. Officials said the increased intake would help the institution produce more competent, compassionate and skilled medical professionals.
