New Delhi, 10 July (H.S.): Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan said that Vande Mataram transformed love for the motherland into a sacred national duty and inspired countless freedom fighters with courage, sacrifice and hope during India's freedom struggle. He also said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel not only integrated the princely states but also united the hearts of the people, laying the strong foundation for one nation, one Constitution and a shared national future.
The Vice President made these remarks while virtually addressing the inaugural session of the permanent exhibition titled The Journey of Vande Mataram and the international seminar on Sardar Patel's Vision: Integration, Unity and Federalism, organised by the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, on Friday.
Describing Vande Mataram as more than just a song, Radhakrishnan said it symbolises India's spirit of freedom. He noted that the song carried the message of patriotism to every corner of the country and infused the freedom movement with renewed strength and inspiration. Even today, he said, Vande Mataram continues to inspire dedication to the nation, self-respect and national unity.
Paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Vice President said Patel successfully integrated the princely states, making possible the political and administrative unification of modern India. He added that Patel's visionary leadership played a decisive role in establishing India as a strong and united nation.
Radhakrishnan said that true patriotism should not remain confined to words but must be reflected every day through honesty, a culture of excellence in work and an unwavering commitment to national unity. He called upon citizens to strengthen their resolve to build a united, confident and inclusive India by carrying forward the timeless message of Vande Mataram and the nation-building ideals of Sardar Patel.
On the occasion, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study inaugurated the permanent exhibition titled The Journey of Vande Mataram. The institute also formally launched the international seminar focusing on Sardar Patel's vision of national integration, unity and the Indian federal system.
