'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' Promotes Drug-Free India Message in 79th Edition

New Delhi, 28 June (H.S.): The 79th edition of 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' was held at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex in New Delhi on Sunday with the theme Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign). Children, youth, senior citizens, cycling enthusiasts and fitness lovers came together to take a pledge for a drug-free India and reaffirmed their commitment to leading healthy, addiction-free lives.

Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Fit India Movement, the event featured a five-kilometre cycling rally as its main attraction. Participants rode together to spread the message that sports and fitness are among the most effective ways to promote a healthy lifestyle and steer young people away from substance abuse. More than 800 people took part in the programme.

During the event, fitness model and Fit India Ambassador Kiran Chhillar was felicitated for her contribution to promoting fitness. She urged people to make fitness a lifelong commitment.

Fit India Sundays on Cycle has always promoted the message of a healthy lifestyle. We should follow it and make positive health a part of our daily lives, Chhillar said.

Another major attraction of the morning programme was the Yoga Zone, where participants took part in guided yoga sessions. Recreational activities, including tug of war, carrom and chess, also added to the festive atmosphere.

Rajesh Sharma, who attended the event with his family, said, My children were busy playing games while my parents participated in the yoga session. We rarely find a place where three generations can enjoy fitness activities together.

Student Ananya Verma described the event as different from a conventional sporting programme.

It felt more like a festival than an exercise event. There was Zumba, games, music, cycling and many other activities, she said.
