New Delhi, 28 June (H.S.):

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into an accident that occurred during a training flight at Kanpur's Chakeri Airport. Pending the completion of the inquiry, the flight instructor involved has been relieved of all flight training responsibilities, while the aircraft involved has been grounded.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the DGCA said that on June 26, a twin-engine Tecnam P2006T aircraft (registration VT-NBV) belonging to Garg Aviation's Flying Training Organisation (FTO) was conducting a night training sortie at Chakeri Airport. The aircraft was carrying a flight instructor and a cadet pilot.

After the aircraft landed, the cadet pilot disembarked while the engines were still running. During the process, she came into contact with the aircraft's propeller and sustained injuries to her back. She was immediately admitted to a hospital in Kanpur for treatment.

The DGCA said a detailed investigation is underway to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident, compliance with established safety procedures, and the responsibilities of those involved. Until the inquiry is completed, the concerned flight instructor has been removed from all flight training duties.

The aviation regulator has also directed that the aircraft involved in the incident remain grounded until the investigation is concluded. The DGCA said further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
