New Delhi, 27 June (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed from New Delhi on Saturday for a three-day State Visit to the East African island nation of Seychelles from June 27 to 29.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi is visiting Seychelles at the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie. He will attend the country's National Day Golden Jubilee celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of its independence as the Guest of Honour. This is Prime Minister Modi's second visit to Seychelles after his previous visit in 2015.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Herminie to review the full spectrum of India-Seychelles cooperation. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Modi will also address the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. In addition, he will interact with members of the Indian diaspora living in the island nation. The visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendship, maritime cooperation, and strategic partnership between India and Seychelles.

Before his departure, the Prime Minister said Seychelles is an important maritime neighbour and a key partner in India's Vision MAHASAGAR and its shared commitment to the Global South.

He noted that the two countries are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, describing the partnership as one built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity, and strong people-to-people ties.

Prime Minister Modi said he looked forward to his discussions with President Herminie, building on the momentum created during the Seychelles President's successful State Visit to India in February 2026. He said the two countries would continue working together to advance the well-being of their people and promote peace, security, and prosperity across the Indian Ocean region.

Highlighting the significance of his address to the National Assembly, the Prime Minister said it would be a historic occasion reflecting the democratic traditions and parliamentary values shared by both nations.

He also expressed his eagerness to meet the vibrant Indian community in Seychelles, acknowledging its enduring contribution to strengthening the special friendship between the two countries and serving as a living bridge between their peoples.

Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the visit would deepen the longstanding bilateral partnership, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean, and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific and Indian Ocean region.
