New Delhi, 26 June (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is paying tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those who fought to defend democracy while reaffirming the resolve that the Constitution is supreme and will always remain supreme. She said Constitution Murder Day symbolises the nation's unwavering commitment to never forget the dark chapter of the Emergency and to safeguard democracy.

The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised an Emergency Black Day Seminar at the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Convention Centre on Friday to mark the 51st anniversary of the Emergency, observed as Constitution Murder Day. On the occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, former Union Education Minister Smriti Irani and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra honoured party workers who had been imprisoned during the Emergency.

During the programme, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to protecting democracy and upholding citizens' rights. They also remembered the struggles endured during the Emergency and resolved to strengthen democratic values by drawing lessons from that period.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that June 25, 1975, remains one of the darkest chapters in the history of Indian democracy, when the Congress imposed the Emergency to retain power and protect the political interests of a single family. She said the spirit of the Constitution was undermined, civil liberties were suppressed, and every effort was made to silence the voice of democracy.

Among those present at the event were BJP Parliamentary Board member Satyanarayan Jatiya, Members of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yogender Chandolia and Bansuri Swaraj, MLA Abhay Verma, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, along with several other dignitaries.
