Massachusetts, 24 June (H.S.): Ghana produced a disciplined and resilient defensive performance to hold England to a 0-0 draw in a Group L match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday at Boston Stadium. Despite several attempts from England’s star-studded lineup, Ghana’s well-organised backline stood firm to secure a valuable point.
Led by Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, England dominated possession and looked to impose themselves throughout the contest, but Ghana’s players maintained their shape and discipline, denying the Three Lions any clear opportunities. With the draw, Ghana moved to four points from two matches and remain behind England only on goal difference.
England’s best chance to claim victory came in the closing moments of regulation time. Substitute Nico O’Reilly connected with a cross from the right flank and directed a powerful header towards goal, but the effort struck the post and bounced away. Harry Kane then had an opportunity from the rebound but failed to convert, sending his shot over the crossbar.
In an effort to increase attacking momentum during the second half, England head coach Thomas Tuchel introduced Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze. However, the substitutions failed to significantly alter the course of the match or break down Ghana’s stubborn defence.
Ghana displayed composure and tactical discipline throughout the encounter, successfully repelling England’s repeated attacks and earning an important point in their quest for qualification.
England will now face Panama in their next fixture in New Jersey, while Ghana are set to take on Croatia in Philadelphia.
The result leaves Group L finely balanced, with both teams still well positioned as the competition moves into the decisive phase of the group stage.
