Guwahati, 22 June (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that direct flight services from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi will commence from August 4, marking a major step in strengthening Assam’s international connectivity.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said that the new non-stop services to the two UAE cities will boost trade, investment, tourism and international engagement for Assam. He noted that the development comes shortly after European Union member states lifted their travel advisory for Assam.

According to CM Sarma, with the launch of the new routes by Air India, Guwahati Airport will be connected directly to four countries — the UAE, Thailand, Singapore and Bhutan. He described the expansion as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to integrate more closely with the global community and open new avenues for growth and prosperity.

The Chief Minister further said that the next objective is to introduce direct flight services between Guwahati and Vietnam. He added that the enhanced international connectivity will help position Guwahati as a major travel and transit hub for Southeast Asia.-----------
