Nagaon (Assam), 21 June (HS): The Nagaon district administration is gearing up for a large-scale eviction drive to reclaim government grazing reserve land allegedly encroached upon at multiple locations under Hatichong Mouza. Preparations for the operation are currently underway, with authorities expected to begin the exercise in the coming days.

As part of the pre-eviction process, Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta and MLA Rupak Sharma, accompanied by senior officials, visited the affected sites and reviewed the situation on the ground. The inspection focused on areas where government reserve land is reportedly under unauthorized occupation.

The proposed eviction will cover Government Grazing Reserve No. 72 under Goraimari Pathar Kissam and Government Grazing Reserve Nos. 62 and 63 under Bogoriguri Pam Kissam, all falling within the Nagaon Sadar Revenue Circle. Officials stated that permanent residential structures have allegedly been constructed on portions of the reserved land, while several ponds were also excavated within the notified area.

According to the administration, notices were served to the occupants on July 25, 2025, directing them to vacate the land. However, the authorities claim that the directives were ignored and the encroachments remained in place.

With repeated warnings reportedly yielding no response, the district administration has decided to proceed with eviction measures. Officials said necessary logistical and administrative arrangements are being finalized to ensure the smooth execution of the drive.-----------
