
Guwahati, 21 June (HS): The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the Assam BJP headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, along with programmes held across the state on Sunday. Hundreds of party workers participated in the yoga session organised by the Rajdhani Mandal of the Dispur constituency in the presence of Assam BJP president and Darrang-Udalguri MP Dilip Saikia.
Extending his greetings on the occasion, Saikia said yoga has evolved into a global mass movement under the inspiration and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described yoga as more than a physical exercise, saying it serves as a medium to integrate physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual well-being. He also noted that collective yoga practice brings a sense of peace, satisfaction and purity of mind.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the central celebration of the International Day of Yoga at Sati Radhika Udyan in Guwahati along with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said yoga promotes peace of mind, physical strength and positivity in life. He added that the global recognition of India’s ancient yoga tradition under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership is a matter of pride for every Indian.
Sarma expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for popularising yoga worldwide and said the ancient practice has transformed into a global people’s movement through his visionary leadership. He highlighted that the occasion marks twelve years of the International Day of Yoga’s journey.
According to the BJP, yoga programmes were organised simultaneously at 37,383 locations across 23,498 villages in Assam. More than 3.2 million members of self-help groups, along with people from various sections of society, participated in the events, promoting the message of healthy living and social harmony.
The party further stated that yoga activities were conducted in all 39 organisational districts, 395 mandals and over 30,000 BJP booths across the state, with lakhs of party workers taking part in the celebrations.
