New Delhi, 21 June (H.S.):
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday urged students appearing for the NEET re-examination to remain completely fearless and free from anxiety while taking the test.
He made the remarks while attending the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations organised by the University of Delhi (DU) at its South Campus on Benito Juarez Marg.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Pradhan expressed confidence in the examination process and said, The NEET re-examination is being conducted today. I have complete faith in the National Testing Agency (NTA), the state governments, district administrations and the country's education system. Around 2.2 million students are appearing for this examination. They should take the test without any fear or anxiety. My best wishes are with all of them.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Union Minister said the world is currently facing serious challenges related to mental stress and physical fitness, and emphasised that the ancient science of yoga offers an effective solution to these problems.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts, Pradhan said India's ancient tradition of yoga has been firmly established on the global stage over the past decade. He appealed to students and the general public to dedicate at least 10 minutes every day to practising yoga.
If we practise yoga throughout all 365 days of the year, we will remain healthy and better equipped to serve the world, he said.
The Education Minister also expressed satisfaction over the University of Delhi's improved performance in the QS World University Rankings 2027. He noted that the university, which had been placed in the 600-plus bracket a few years ago, has now risen to the 322nd position.
Congratulating the university on its progress, Pradhan challenged it to secure a place among the world's top 100 universities in the coming years. He said the University of Delhi would play a vital leadership role in achieving the vision of a Developed India.
Delivering the presidential address, University of Delhi Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh described yoga and Ayurveda as India's greatest gifts to humanity. He said yoga creates harmony between the body, mind, intellect and soul.
He observed that while the human mind is naturally restless and the body tends to seek comfort, yoga helps stabilise the mind and energise the body, enabling individuals to develop self-discipline and self-control.
Expressing concern over the declining sense of compassion among educated sections of society, the Vice-Chancellor said yoga teaches people to cultivate empathy, cooperation and compassion even in a highly competitive environment.
The event was attended by Higher Education Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Dean of Colleges at the University of Delhi Prof. Balram Pani, Director of the South Campus Prof. Rajni Abbi, Director of the Campus of Open Learning (COL) Prof. Payal Mago, along with faculty members, non-teaching staff and students.
