and digital marketing
Lucknow, 20 June (HS): The Uttar Pradesh government has
taken another important initiative towards giving global recognition to the
traditional products of the state and providing better employment and
self-employment opportunities to the youth at the local level. To realize the vision
of self-reliant Uttar Pradesh of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a
comprehensive skill development campaign is being conducted in all 75 districts
of the state under the 'One District-One Product' (ODOP) scheme by the Uttar
Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM). Through this campaign, being run
under the leadership of Mission Director Pulkit Khare, a total of 8,525 youth
are being provided training in modern and industry-oriented skills related to
the major traditional products of their district.
This initiative is considered an important step toward
making local products competitive in the national and international markets by
integrating them with modern technology, design, quality, packaging, and
digital marketing. Through training, youth will have access to better
employment and self-employment opportunities in their own districts, and local
industries will receive trained human resources.
The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has implemented
this ambitious program in two phases. The first phase began on April 1, 2026,
and provided specialized ODOP-based training to 1,050 youth from 17 districts.
Given the success of the first phase and the increasing participation of youth,
the campaign has now been expanded and the target for the second phase is to
train 7,475 youth from the remaining 58 districts.
Combining both the phases, a total of 8,525 youth in all 75
districts of the state will be provided training in manufacturing, designing,
quality control, packaging, branding, digital marketing and entrepreneurship
development of major ODOP products of their district.
The Mission has designed training modules keeping in mind
the needs of each district's major traditional products and industries. In the
first phase, 575 youth in Etah are being trained in handicrafts, 200 youth in
Mirzapur in carpet and handicrafts, 350 youth in Pratapgarh and 300 youth in
Bahraich in food processing, 200 youth in Gautam Buddha Nagar in apparel and
fashion designing, and 75 youth in Agra in modern leather technology.
Similarly, in the second phase, 200 youth from Varanasi will
be trained in modern textiles and design, 250 youth from Gonda in pulse-based
food processing, and 500 youth from Maharajganj and Pilibhit in modern
furniture and wooden fittings manufacturing. Training programs tailored to
their key ODOP products will also be conducted in other districts.
In this program run by Uttar Pradesh Skill Development
Mission, training will not be limited only to traditional production
techniques, but the youth will also be trained in operation of modern machines,
quality management, attractive packaging, e-commerce, digital marketing,
branding, entrepreneurship development as per the current needs of the
industries.
After completion of training, the youth will be provided
employment in reputed industries and will also be linked to various government
schemes, bank loans and other financial assistance schemes including Mudra
Yojana to set up their own enterprise.
The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has made the
training process completely digital and transparent. Interested candidates can
visit the mission's official website upsdm.gov.in , and access the ODOP link to
obtain information about their district's training centers, available trades,
training provider institutions, and application requirements.
To address training, registration, or technical issues, the
Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has also launched a dedicated
Skill Call Center (0522-3619292). Trained representatives provide
youth with the necessary assistance and guidance at every stage, from
registration to training center selection.
Pulkit Khare, Mission Director of the Uttar Pradesh Skill
Development Mission, said that each district in the state has its own unique
identity and traditional products. Our goal is not only to preserve these
products, but also to create sustainable employment and self-employment
opportunities for youth by linking them with modern skills, new technology, and
market requirements. He added that the ODOP training program is an important
initiative in this direction, providing 8,525 youth with employable skills
related to their local industries. This will provide skilled human resources to
local industries and strengthen the state's economy and self-reliance.
