
Guwahati, 20 June (HS): In a major boost to Assam’s tourism sector and international image, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the European Union has withdrawn the restrictions previously imposed on travel to the state.
Addressing the people of Assam through a Facebook Live session, the Chief Minister described the development as a significant achievement for the state. He said that tourists from all 27 member countries of the European Union will now be able to visit Assam without the earlier constraints.
Dr. Sarma stated that the decision reflects the improved law and order situation in Assam and the growing international recognition of the state as a peaceful and stable destination. According to him, the European Union now considers Assam a peaceful region, paving the way for increased tourism, cultural exchanges and economic opportunities.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the move would attract more foreign visitors to Assam’s rich natural, cultural and historical attractions, further strengthening the state's tourism industry and global connectivity.----------
