
Bhubaneswar, 16 June (H.S.): The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) under the School and Mass Education Department has launched the second phase of its Induction Training Programme for newly appointed Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) serving in Government Higher Secondary Schools and Government Upgraded Higher Secondary Schools across Odisha.
The five-day training programme commenced on Tuesday at the Institute of Management and Advanced Global Excellence (IMAGE), Siripur, with the participation of nearly 120 PGT teachers from various districts of the state.
The inaugural session was attended by prominent education officials, including Smt. Smita Rout, State Project Director of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS); Smt. Niyati Pattnaik, Director, DHSE; Joint Directors Smt. Sasmita Mali and Smt. Snigdha Mishra; and Deputy Director Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi.
Addressing the participants, Smt. Smita Rout underscored the crucial role teachers play in shaping the future of students and society. She urged the newly appointed educators to become role models and sources of inspiration for young learners, emphasizing that the responsibility of nurturing responsible and capable citizens rests significantly on the teaching community.
Speaking on the occasion, DHSE Director Smt. Niyati Pattnaik highlighted the importance of higher secondary education in students’ academic growth and career development. She stressed the need for teachers to continuously update their knowledge and professional skills to meet evolving educational demands, noting that the induction programme would serve as an important platform for capacity building.
Earlier, Joint Director Smt. Sasmita Mali welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the objectives and structure of the training workshop. Deputy Director Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the programme, while Joint Director Smt. Snigdha Mishra delivered the vote of thanks.
The induction programme for PGT teachers is being conducted in two phases. The second phase, which began on June 16, will continue until June 20, 2026. This phase includes the participation of 120 teachers from the disciplines of Odia, English and Education.
The workshop is designed to enhance professional competencies and familiarize teachers with key educational policies and administrative processes. Sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in classroom teaching, Odisha Education Rules, operation of the SAMS and Shikshajyoti portals, provisions of the POSH Act, scholarship schemes, administrative responsibilities, examination and evaluation procedures, and career guidance initiatives.
