Evian (France), June 16 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Tuesday briefly interacted on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, ahead of their scheduled bilateral meeting.
The interaction marked the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since February 2025, when Prime Minister Modi visited Washington shortly after President Trump's second inauguration.
Visuals from the summit venue showed the two leaders exchanging greetings and holding a brief conversation before joining other world leaders participating in the summit. Their formal bilateral meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Evian to participate in the G7 Summit as the leader of a partner country at the invitation of France. In a post on X, he said he looked forward to engaging with world leaders and exchanging views on key global issues.
The Modi-Trump meeting comes amid ongoing discussions between India and the United States on trade, regional security and Indo-Pacific cooperation. The two leaders are also expected to review bilateral relations and discuss issues of mutual interest during their scheduled talks.
Apart from his engagement with President Trump, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
