Lucknow, 14 June (HS): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister
Keshav Prasad Maurya has taken a significant decision to empower women farmers
in rural areas, empowering them to become self-reliant. This decision includes
granting financial approval of over Rs. 49.583 million for the fiscal year
2026-27 under the Women Farmers Empowerment Project (MKSP).
The Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Project, run under the
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) of the
Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, aims to recognize the
important role of women in the agriculture sector and develop them as empowered
farmers and entrepreneurs.
Approved under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav
Prasad Maurya, this funding will prioritize women farmers, especially those
from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories. Through the project,
women farmers will be provided with facilities such as skill development,
financial assistance, modern agricultural techniques, livelihood enhancement,
and market linkages.
Under the standard item-27 subsidy of grant number-83
(Scheduled Caste item) for the financial year 2026-27, approval of Rs 2 crore
97 lakh 50 thousand of central share released by the Government of India and
the corresponding amount of Rs 1 crore 98 lakh 33 thousand of state share,
totaling Rs 4 crore 95 lakh 83 thousand has been given by Deputy Chief Minister
Keshav Prasad Maurya.
The Women Farmer Empowerment Project aims to establish women
in agriculture not just as laborers, but as empowered decision-makers, farmers,
and successful entrepreneurs. Prioritizing women-headed households and
resource-poor groups, it aims to increase their income and improve their
socio-economic status.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Deputy Chief Minister
said that the state government is continuously working to empower rural women
and provide them with better livelihood opportunities. When women farmers are
empowered, the economy of their families, villages, and the state will also be
strengthened. The Women Farmer Empowerment Project will be an effective medium
to increase women's participation in rural areas, make agriculture profitable
and lead them towards self-reliance.
