Muscat/New Delhi, 14 June (HS): All 14 crew members of the Indian-flagged vessel MSV Virat 1 have been rescued in a coordinated maritime operation off the coast of Oman, according to the Embassy of India in Muscat.

The Embassy said in a post on X that the rescue operation had been completed successfully and all crew members had been taken onboard MV Jabal Ali 9.

“Rescue operation involving Indian Flagged MSV Virat 1 has been successfully completed. All 14 crew members have been rescued and are presently onboard Jabal Ali 9 heading to Mumbai. The crew members are safe and in good health,” the Embassy of India in Muscat said.

Earlier, the Embassy had stated that 11 of the 14 crew members had been rescued and shifted to MV Jabal Ali 9 as part of an ongoing rescue operation at sea. Efforts were subsequently completed to rescue the remaining three crew members.

The mission said it remained in close coordination with the concerned authorities during the operation.

In a separate update, the Embassy said it was coordinating with local Omani authorities, port officials and the shipping company regarding Indian national Nishanth Uirthanathan, who died onboard MT Celestial due to medical reasons.

According to the Embassy, the vessel is expected to berth shortly at Duqm Port, and arrangements have been made for the prompt recovery of the mortal remains. The mission said it is in touch with the family and facilitating formalities for the earliest repatriation of the mortal remains to India.
