
MOSCOW, June 13 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) on Saturday said that a projectile struck a tanker off the coast of Oman.
UKMTO has received a report of an incident 6NM [nautical miles] east of Oman. It is reported a Tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in the Port Bow, the statement read.
The crew is safe and no damage to environment has been reported, it added. The vessel is continuing to the port of destination, UKMTO said.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region and growing concerns over maritime security near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world's oil shipments pass.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile about six nautical miles east of Oman. The agency said the crew was safe, no environmental damage had been reported, and the vessel was continuing to its destination port.
