Nalbari (Assam), 01 June (HS): Strong public outrage has erupted following love jihad murder of a youth and the critical injury of his sister in Assam's Nalbari district. The incident, which took place in Gangapur, has drawn sharp condemnation from the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), which has demanded the harshest possible punishment for the accused and a fair investigation into the case.
AASU president Utpal Sharma said talking to media on Monday that Madhurya Barman, an active worker of the student body, was brutally killed in the attack. He asserted that the organization would not take the matter lightly and insisted that the accused must face the strictest punishment under the law. Sharma also questioned how the accused, Roz Ali, allegedly gained the confidence to commit such a crime and maintained that no one involved should be spared from severe legal action.
In protest against the incident, AASU members staged demonstrations across Nalbari, demanding justice for Madhurya Barman. Protesters called for the accused to receive capital punishment and urged authorities to ensure swift and stringent action.
Meanwhile, the critically injured young woman and the victim’s mother, while speaking to the media, alleged that Roz Ali had been harassing the girl for several years. They claimed that he had repeatedly threatened her with a knife and warned of dire consequences if she did not comply with his demands.
According to the girl's mother, the harassment began when her daughter was studying in Class IX. The prolonged intimidation allegedly affected her education and caused significant mental distress. She further alleged that the accused’s parents had earlier appealed to the family not to lodge a formal complaint regarding the matter.
The incident in Gangapur claimed the life of the young woman's brother, while she remains under medical treatment in critical condition. The case has sparked widespread anger across the state, with citizens and organizations demanding a thorough investigation and prompt justice for the victims..----------
