Nagpur, 08 May
(HS): The passport office in Nagpur in Sadiqabad area is in shambles, with the
car parking filled with garbage and stray animals loitering in it, no washroom in
waiting hall and long queues make situation horrible for the visitors.
Why the office
was shifted from CGO Complex (Central Government Offices Complex) to a narrow
road in Sadiqabad is an unanswered question.
The office
provided parking space for two-wheelers, while four wheeler drivers would not
dare to park their vehicles in the specified parking place looking at the
garbage and stray animals.
When enquired
about the four-wheeler parking slot, the security officers tell to park the vehicles
on road side. The lane is blocked due to large number of four-wheelers parked
on both sides.
Instead of
arranging for the parking of four-wheelers, the traffic police enjoy putting up
jammers and penalise the vehicle owners for wrong parking. The residents also
face difficulties in steering their vehicles to and from their homes.
The passport
office in the Old Secretariat premises was shifted to the CGO Complex in Seminary
Hills area and then to Sadiqabad. The CGO Complex was designed to accommodate
all Central Government offices with adequate space for vehicle parking. The
present office in Sadiqabad is a congested place and the approach road is also
narrow.
The number of
applicants for passport has increased during the last decade with students and
employment seekers getting opportunities at international level.
The Smart City
Authorities and the Union Government is expected to make arrangements to
facilitate operations at its important office. The problem is expected to be
resolved soon, with the dashing Union Minister and Maharashtra Chief Minister being
the native of Nagpur.
