
Guwahati, 04 May (HS): Counting of votes for the 126 assembly seats in the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 continued on Monday, with trends from all constituencies indicating a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies. According to the latest figures, the BJP is leading in 81 seats, while its allies together have taken the tally to 100 seats. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), an ally of the BJP, has already secured victory in one seat.
As per Election Commission, counting of 8 to 12 rounds has been completed in most constituencies. Trends suggest that all major BJP leaders are maintaining comfortable leads. In the state capital Guwahati, the party is ahead in all five assembly seats with decisive margins.
The Congress, the principal opposition party, is leading in 25 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is ahead in 2 seats and Raijor Dal in 2 seats. Among BJP allies, the BPF is leading in 9 seats in addition to its one win, while the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is ahead in 8 seats.
In the Jorhat constituency, counting of all 14 rounds has been completed. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and MP Gaurav Gogoi is trailing BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami by 23,182 votes. Goswami has secured 69,439 votes, while Gogoi has received 46,257 votes. However, the formal declaration of results is still awaited.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is contesting from the Jalukbari constituency, where 9 out of 18 rounds of counting have been completed. He is leading with 61,203 votes, ahead of Congress candidate Bidisha Neog by a margin of 41,798 votes. Several senior Congress leaders are trailing significantly, with the party’s lead largely confined to minority-dominated regions.
In terms of vote share, the BJP has secured 39.81% votes till 2 PM, while the Congress stands at 27.97 percent.-----------
