-Young Spinner Says Team Ready to Embrace Challenge After Series-Leveling Defeat

BRISTOL, May 31 (H.S.): India women's left-arm spinner Sree Charani has expressed confidence that the team will make a strong comeback in the third and deciding T20 International against England, asserting that the players are fully prepared to rise to the challenge.

Hosts England leveled the three-match T20I series 1-1 after defeating India by 26 runs in the second match on Saturday. India had won the opening game by 38 runs. The series decider is scheduled to be played on June 2.

The series is serving as a crucial preparatory assignment for the Indian team ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is set to begin on June 12 in England and Wales.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Charani emphasized the importance of winning matches to build momentum and confidence.

“I think it is important for us to win every game because it gives us confidence and allows us to take something positive away from each match. Had we won here, we would have had two victories in the series, which would have given us even greater confidence,” she said.

Looking ahead to the final match, the young spinner added, “Now we have a good challenge in front of us. I believe we will accept that challenge and be fully prepared for it.”

Despite India's defeat in the second T20I, Charani delivered an impressive individual performance, claiming three crucial wickets and emerging as one of the standout performers for the visitors.

Reflecting on her bowling, she said, “I am simply trying to bowl according to my strengths, nothing more. I am not attempting to do anything different or extraordinary. I believe generating turn is my greatest strength, and I focus on that.”

The left-arm spinner's disciplined performance offered one of the few positives for India in a match that saw England produce a strong all-round display to draw level in the series.

Following the conclusion of the England series, India will begin its Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan women's national cricket team on June 14.

With the series finely poised and the World Cup fast approaching, the decisive third T20I is expected to provide both teams with a valuable opportunity to assess their preparations ahead of the global tournament.
