The Kerala government has assigned district-wise responsibilities to members of the newly constituted United Democratic Front (UDF) Cabinet, aiming to strengthen administrative coordination and ensure closer monitoring of development and governance activities across the state.
An official order issued by the government on Sunday allocated the responsibility of each of Kerala’s 14 districts to individual ministers. The move is expected to facilitate better coordination between the state government and district administrations while enabling ministers to oversee the implementation of welfare schemes and development projects more effectively.
Local Self-Government Minister K.M. Shaji has been given charge of Kasaragod district, while Industries Minister Sunny Joseph will oversee Kannur district. Transport Minister C.P. John has been entrusted with the responsibility of Thiruvananthapuram district.
Forest Minister Shibu Baby John has been assigned Kollam district, and Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunath will be in charge of Pathanamthitta district. Excise and Cooperation Minister M. Liju has been given responsibility for Alappuzha district.
Senior leader Mons Joseph has been entrusted with the charge of Kottayam district, while Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob will oversee Idukki district. Minister Roji M. John has been assigned Ernakulam district, one of the state’s most economically significant regions.
Minister O.J. Jeneesh will be responsible for Thrissur district, while N. Shamsuddeen has been assigned Palakkad district. Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer will oversee Malappuram district, and Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar has been entrusted with the responsibility of Kozhikode district.
Agriculture Minister T. Siddique will be in charge of Wayanad district.
Government sources said the district allocation system is intended to ensure that each minister maintains close engagement with local administration, monitors the progress of key projects, and addresses district-specific issues in a timely manner.
The district-level responsibilities are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing governance, improving coordination between departments, and ensuring the effective implementation of the UDF government’s development agenda across Kerala.
