Phillaur, 31 May (H.S.): Jalandhar Rural Police have busted an illegal arms supply network allegedly

being operated from abroad and arrested a youth with an illegal pistol, a

magazine and live cartridges. Police officials said the recovered weapon was

allegedly intended to be used in a major criminal activity.

The operation was carried out under the

directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural Harvinder

Singh Virk, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Investigation)

Vineet Ahlawat and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Phillaur Bharat Masih

Ladhar. The raid was conducted by a police team led by SHO Phillaur Lovneet

Bangar during a special search operation in Mandi village.

Addressing the media, DSP Bharat Masih Ladhar

said that ASI Sukhdev Singh, in-charge of Police Post Apra, searched the

residence of Jashanpreet Singh, son of Surinder Singh and a resident of Mandi

village. During the search, police recovered a 7.63 mm pistol, one magazine and

six live 7.63 mm cartridges from his possession.

Following the recovery, an FIR was registered

at Phillaur Police Station under relevant sections of the Arms Act.

During preliminary interrogation, it was

revealed that the weapon had allegedly been supplied by Lovepreet Singh alias

Ladi, resident of Bhajjal village in Hoshiarpur district, who is currently

residing in Armenia. Police suspect that the weapon was provided with the

intention of carrying out a major criminal offence.

Investigations have further revealed that

Lovepreet Singh alias Ladi has several criminal cases registered against him in

different police stations across Punjab for allegedly supplying illegal

weapons.

The

arrested accused, Jashanpreet Singh, was produced before a court and police

remand was obtained for further questioning. Police officials said the

investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the network and uncover

the entire arms supply chain. More significant revelations are expected during
