
Phillaur, 31 May (H.S.): Jalandhar Rural Police have busted an illegal arms supply network allegedly
being operated from abroad and arrested a youth with an illegal pistol, a
magazine and live cartridges. Police officials said the recovered weapon was
allegedly intended to be used in a major criminal activity.
The operation was carried out under the
directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural Harvinder
Singh Virk, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Investigation)
Vineet Ahlawat and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Phillaur Bharat Masih
Ladhar. The raid was conducted by a police team led by SHO Phillaur Lovneet
Bangar during a special search operation in Mandi village.
Addressing the media, DSP Bharat Masih Ladhar
said that ASI Sukhdev Singh, in-charge of Police Post Apra, searched the
residence of Jashanpreet Singh, son of Surinder Singh and a resident of Mandi
village. During the search, police recovered a 7.63 mm pistol, one magazine and
six live 7.63 mm cartridges from his possession.
Following the recovery, an FIR was registered
at Phillaur Police Station under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
During preliminary interrogation, it was
revealed that the weapon had allegedly been supplied by Lovepreet Singh alias
Ladi, resident of Bhajjal village in Hoshiarpur district, who is currently
residing in Armenia. Police suspect that the weapon was provided with the
intention of carrying out a major criminal offence.
Investigations have further revealed that
Lovepreet Singh alias Ladi has several criminal cases registered against him in
different police stations across Punjab for allegedly supplying illegal
weapons.
The
arrested accused, Jashanpreet Singh, was produced before a court and police
remand was obtained for further questioning. Police officials said the
investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the network and uncover
the entire arms supply chain. More significant revelations are expected during
the course of the investigation.
