Prayagraj,
31 May (HS): An Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (ANRP) workshop
related to saving the lives of newborns was organized at Motilal Nehru Medical
College, Prayagraj on Sunday. The main objective of the workshop was to train
doctors and health workers to provide essential life-saving medical assistance
to newborns immediately after birth. The program was organized under the joint
auspices of the Department of Pediatrics, MLN Medical College, Indian Academy
of Pediatrics (IAP) Prayagraj Branch, National IAP and National Neonatology

The

Singh, and former Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Professor Rajiv Sharan.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. A.K. Verma stated that under the Indian
Neonatal Action Plan of the Government of India, the goal has been set to
reduce the neonatal mortality rate to less than 10 per thousand live births. To
achieve this goal, it is essential that every newborn receives immediate care
from a trained and skilled health worker.
SIC
Dr. Neelam Singh said that the first few minutes after birth, known as the
golden minutes, are crucial for a newborn's life and future health.
If appropriate medical attention is provided in this timely manner, many
newborn lives can be saved and serious complications can be avoided.
Addressing
the participants, Chief Guest Professor Rajiv Sharan stated that neonatal
resuscitation is a skill that requires regular practice and training. He
encouraged young physicians and trainees to continually update their knowledge
and skills.
Dr.
Manisha Maurya, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, who chaired the workshop
and coordinated the course, stated that a total of 36 participants received
training. To ensure optimal training, one facilitator was assigned for every
six trainees. Participants received hands-on training in bag-mask ventilation,
respiratory support, neonatal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and other
life-saving techniques.
Dr.
Akash Pandita, Secretary of the UP National Neonatology Forum and Head of the
Department of Pediatrics at Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, served as the lead
instructor at the workshop. Dr. Manisha Maurya, Dr. Anita Singh (SGPGI,
Lucknow), Dr. Sachin Verma (Vivekananda Polyclinic, Lucknow), Dr. Pramod Kumar
(United Medical College, Prayagraj), Dr. Rahul Jaiswal (Mettcare Hospital,
