
Perth, May 29 (H.S.): The India women's national field hockey team registered an impressive 2-0 victory over the Australia women's national field hockey team in the third match of the friendly series played at Perth Hockey Stadium on Friday.
With this win, India has taken a 2-1 lead in the four-match series. After suffering defeat in the opening game, the Indian side bounced back strongly by securing a 4-2 shootout victory in the second match and has now followed it up with another commanding performance in the third encounter.
The match witnessed disciplined defensive play from both teams right from the start. Neither side allowed a breakthrough during the opening two quarters, and the contest remained goalless at 0-0 until half-time.
India finally broke the deadlock in the third quarter when Sonam scored a field goal in the 36th minute to hand her team the lead.
The Indian team maintained its dominance in the final quarter as well, and Lalremsiami doubled the advantage with another field goal in the 49th minute, sealing a convincing 2-0 victory for India.
The fourth and final match of the series will be played at the same venue on Saturday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m. IST.
