Kolkata, 26 May(H.S.): Speculation over internal unrest within the Trinamool Congress has intensified following the party’s recent electoral setback in West Bengal. Amid the growing political buzz, a cryptic social media post by Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has triggered fresh discussions in political circles.
In a post on X, the MP referred to ancient Roman emperor Julius Caesar and wrote that Caesar was assassinated inside the Senate on the “Ides” of March in 44 BC. He further explained that in the Roman calendar, the “Ides” generally referred to the 15th day of March, May, July and October.
In a politically significant remark, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray stated that before the “Ides” of May could arrive this year, the people of West Bengal had already brought an end to what he described as an “unbearable anarchic situation.”
The statement has sparked widespread speculation over whether the senior Trinamool MP indirectly acknowledged the existence of disorder and political turmoil during the party’s rule in the state. Questions are also being raised about whether his differences with the Trinamool leadership are widening.
Following the party’s recent electoral defeat, signs of dissatisfaction within the Trinamool Congress have increasingly surfaced in public. Several leaders have openly questioned the party leadership’s style of functioning. In particular, a section of leaders has reportedly expressed displeasure over the role and functioning of senior party leader Abhishek Banerjee.
According to sources, some leaders who made statements deviating from the party line have faced displeasure from the top leadership, with disciplinary action and suspensions reportedly initiated in certain cases. Against this backdrop, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray’s latest post has added to the discomfort within the Trinamool Congress and further intensified political speculation over internal divisions in the party.
