New Delhi, 21 May (H.S.): Domestic equity markets ended lower on the fourth trading day of the week on Thursday, closing in the red after a volatile session.

The benchmark Sensex declined by 135.03 points during the day, while the Nifty also closed marginally lower.

At the end of trading, the BSE Sensex closed at 75,183.36, down 135.03 points or 0.18 percent. Similarly, the NSE Nifty ended at 23,654.70, slipping by 4.30 points or 0.018 percent.

In today’s session, top Nifty losers included Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, and Bajaj Finserv. On the other hand, shares of Grasim, IndiGo, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Auto, and Trent recorded gains and emerged as top performers.

The foreign exchange market also witnessed some relief. In the interbank forex market, the rupee recovered from its all-time low, strengthening by 63 paise to close at 96.23 (provisional) per US dollar, rebounding from the previous session’s record low of 96.82. The gains were supported by easing crude oil prices and improved global risk sentiment.

In the previous session on Wednesday, the Sensex had gained 117.54 points or 0.16 percent to close at 75,318.39, while the Nifty had risen by 41 points or 0.17 percent to end at 23,659.
