Mumbai, 02 May (H.S.): A major update has emerged regarding Josh Inglis in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter has arrived in India and linked up with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Mumbai. He will be available for selection in the May 4 match against Mumbai Indians.
Inglis' availability had sparked considerable controversy earlier. Citing limited availability this season, he rejected retention by Punjab Kings, prompting a co-owner to label him unprofessional. Having played for Punjab Kings last season, LSG acquired him for ₹8.6 crore at the auction.
The 31-year-old Inglis boasts an impressive record against Mumbai's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, scoring 52 runs off 34 balls in two encounters. Notably, in IPL 2025's Qualifier-2, he smashed 20 runs in a single over from Bumrah, turning the match.
Inglis joins LSG at a critical juncture, with the team struggling near the bottom of the points table, having secured just 2 wins from 8 matches—mirroring Mumbai Indians' predicament. He will train with the team at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday evening. In 11 matches so far, he has amassed 278 runs at a strike rate exceeding 162, including a half-century.
Azmatullah Omarzai to Return on May 7
Azmatullah Omarzai will rejoin Punjab Kings on May 7 after returning home due to his mother's passing. The team paid tribute by wearing black armbands during the April 28 match against Rajasthan Royals.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer stated, On behalf of the entire team, I extend our condolences to Azmat and his family. We stand with him during this difficult time.
