Mumbai, May 19 (H.S.): Smriti Mandhana, vice-captain of the India women's national cricket team, has said that the team’s preparations for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales are going extremely well, with all players in excellent form.

The Indian team will begin its campaign in the 12-nation tournament on June 14 against arch-rivals Pakistan. Ahead of the World Cup, the squad has completed a training camp at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is scheduled to depart for England on May 22, where it will play a three-match T20I series against the host nation.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai during an event for a menstrual hygiene brand, Mandhana said the team has worked hard in its World Cup preparations but avoided revealing tactical details.

She said, “The camp has gone very well. We are preparing for the World Cup and will also play a series before that. All the players are in good shape and have trained exceptionally well. We hope to continue this hard work, make the country proud, and bring the trophy back to India.”

During the event, Mandhana also interacted with schoolchildren and spoke about career opportunities in sports. She emphasized that children today are more aware of the challenges and demands of professional sport.

Mandhana said, “For me, it is very important that children understand that there is a great career opportunity in sports and cricket as well. I always say: follow your passion and enjoy the process.”
