Nationwide Enthusiasm Marks the 74th Edition of Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’

New Delhi, 17 May (H.S.): The 74th edition of the Fit India “Sundays on Cycle” campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation across the country on Sunday, with more than 50,000 people taking part at over 5,000 locations nationwide. This edition of the initiative was organized in collaboration with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Customs Department.

In New Delhi, the event was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where more than 800 participants joined the programme. Apart from officials from the GST and Customs Departments, citizens from all age groups actively participated in the event.

A special “Fun Sports Zone” was also set up, encouraging people to try activities such as badminton, chess, carrom, and ludo. In addition, competitions including lemon race, ball games, tug of war, squat challenges, and push-up challenges were organized.

Speaking about the initiative, Chief Commissioner of Delhi Customs Manish Kumar said that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to adopt a healthy lifestyle, officers and employees of the GST and Customs Departments have actively joined the Fit India Movement. He emphasized that health is everyone’s greatest asset and stated that only a healthy individual can effectively perform professional and personal responsibilities.

Narendra Kumar Yadav, Additional Director of GST and Brand Ambassador of Fit India, said that cycling also plays a significant role in controlling air pollution. He described the programme as a regular feature of the Fit India “Sundays on Cycle” initiative.

Yadav stated that as a Fit India Brand Ambassador, nationwide cycling events are organized every Sunday. Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s appeal to citizens, he said that cycling is not only important for personal health and environmental protection but is also beneficial for the country’s economy. He added that the practice also contributes to fuel conservation.
