
Abu Dhabi/New Delhi, 15 May (H.S.): During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), several important agreements and investment announcements were made. A framework agreement was signed on strategic defence partnership between the two countries. Consensus was reached on deals in the energy sector relating to strategic petroleum reserves and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies.
A memorandum of understanding was signed to set up a ship‑repair cluster at Vadinar in Gujarat. In addition, an investment of 5 billion US dollars was announced in the Indian infrastructure sector, RBL Bank, and Sammaan Capital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Friday morning, Indian Standard Time, as part of a six‑day overseas tour. This marks the beginning of a five‑nation visit, after which he will travel to the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. At Abu Dhabi airport, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Prime Minister Modi, who was then accorded a Guard of Honour. During Prime Minister Modi’s brief visit to the United Arab Emirates, India and the UAE today exchanged memoranda of understanding in the presence of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randheer Jaiswal, the two leaders held a substantive meeting on a wide range of issues. They discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral partnership. The main focus of the discussions were energy, trade and investment, the blue economy, technology including fintech, defence, and people‑to‑people ties. The leaders also exchanged views on developments in West Asia and other global issues.
He added that, during the visit, significant agreements were exchanged in the fields of energy, defence, shipping and other infrastructure sectors, as well as advanced technology, lending further momentum to the India–UAE comprehensive strategic partnership. The UAE also announced an investment of 5 billion US dollars in India, which will further strengthen Indian markets and infrastructure.
During the visit, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the attacks on the UAE in his remarks. He said, “The way the UAE has been targeted is not acceptable in any form.” The Prime Minister welcomed the steps taken by the UAE president to preserve national unity, security, and regional integrity. He also expressed gratitude for the care and support provided to Indian expatriates residing in the UAE during difficult times.
Prime Minister Modi assured that India stands shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the UAE in all circumstances and will continue to do so. India will extend all possible cooperation towards the restoration of peace and stability.
In the talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the impact of the war in the West Asia region is now evident across the world. India has always attached importance to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes. He added that India’s primary objective is that the Strait of Hormuz should remain free and open, and adherence to international law in this regard is essential.
